CIC holds all-member meeting
The Cannabis Industry Council held its regular all-member meeting on Thursday 15 September in central London. Dozens of CIC members participated in-person and virtually.
The meeting began with presentations from CIC Treasurer Charles Clowes and Chair Professor Mike Barnes around financial and procedural matters at the Association. Charles confirmed that a number of new members had joined, with the total now sitting at over 110.
CEO Mike Morgan-Giles then gave an overview of some of the planned developments for the organisation, including a strategic plan, and the consultation around member benefits and services, as well as the potential introduction of a code of conduct.
The CIC working group chairs then gave updates on their recent and upcoming plans. These included Elisabetta Faenza (Standards), Jamie Bartley (Hemp), and James Smith and Dr Sunil Arora (Prescription Cannabis), as well as other working group chairs.
Dr Anne Katrin Schlag, Chair of the Research Working Group, highlighted the planned research project to create a health economic analysis on prescription cannabis, and the potential cost benefits for the NHS. Additional funding is currently being sought to enable the project to kick off.
International Liaison Officer Sam Cannon provided an update from his recent visit to Thailand, where reform in the sector is underway. While Micael Zollmann gave an overview of how his organisation, MedCan, has incorporated ESG into their work to benefit local communities in South Africa.
